Sustainable mobility

We invest in new solutions.

Vehicle fleet

As road transport accounts for a significant part of the final energy consumed by CTT, it is imperative to develop measures aimed at the sustainability of this activity.

To this end, the company has set environmental targets to which it is committed for the coming years and until the end of this decade: operating with 50 per cent electric vehicles on the last mile by 2025 and 100 per cent by 2030.

The solutions are divided into three areas: technological development, mobility management and the adoption of safe driving behaviour.

Alternative fleet

We have one of the largest and most modern fleets of vehicles in the country, and we are endeavouring to expand it through economically efficient and environmentally friendly solutions. By the end of 2022, electric vehicles accounted for around 16 per cent of the total.

Electric vehicles do not emit NOx particles during use and, as we purchase 100 per cent of our electricity from renewable sources, the carbon impact of these electric vehicles is zero during the use phase, helping to improve air quality in cities.

The reinforcement of our last-mile electric fleet has enabled the start-up of fully electric hubs. At the locations served by these centres, the regular delivery of mail and parcels is carried out without the emission of pollutants.

On the other hand, the integration of more modern conventional vehicles - powered by fossil fuels - has made it possible to optimise operating costs and reduce the negative impacts of their use.

As the energy transition is an unavoidable trend these days, we intend to continue along this path by promoting efficiency in terms of fossil fuel consumption and the consumption of electricity from renewable sources and supporting the transition to a sustained and ever-increasing incorporation of electric and/or alternative fuel vehicles in the fleet, with the aim of operating with 50 per cent electric vehicles in the last mile by 2025 and 100 per cent by 2030.

Sustainable Mobility Program

As part of this programme, we have implemented and participated in various initiatives, such as:

  • Inventory and understanding of our carbon footprint, including calculating the commuting emissions of our employees;
  • Offering test drives to our employees and the general public.;
  • Participation in the European Mobility Week;
  • A adesão ao PMEL – Pacto de Mobilidade Empresarial da cidade de Lisboa e ao Pacto do Porto para o Clima;
  • Joining the PMEL - Corporate Mobility Pact of the city of Lisbon and the Porto Pact for Climate;
  • Participation in the Drivers' Challenge, an international eco-driving competition in the postal sector, promoted by the International Post Corporation (IPC);
  • Participation in the Green Postal Day, an initiative also promoted by the IPC aimed at making the efforts of postal operators in the fight against climate change and the reduction of carbon emissions visible;
  • Adoption of the CTT Road Safety Prevention Program.
