CTT presents stamp issue on Madeiras's Photo Museum

This Tuesday, July 21st, CTT presents a philatelic issue on Madeira’s photo museum – Atelier Vicente’s. It is located at the Vicente Gomes da Silva’s (1827-1906) old photo studio. He initiated his portraitist activity around 1853, and purchased the studio at Rua da Correira in 1865.
The stamps for domestic expeditions show the Funchal Rua da Cerreira’s studio general overall appearance, a glass in gelatine negative and silver salts; a studio machine built by Vicente Gomes da Silva Júnior in 1885, a 3-B No. 1 1 656 Dallmeyer lens and intermediate frame with diaphragm adaptor; and a Voigtlander Bessa camera used from 1929 to 1956.
The stamps to be used in Europe have the stairway to the Madeira’s Image Museum – Atelier Vicente’s in 2019, a digital image; a Vicente Gomes da Silva Junior’s image (1857-1933)(1870-1880); a glass in gelatine negative and silver salts and a Kodak Nº 3A Folding Autographic Special camera, from 1916.
The stamps to be used in the rest of the World have the main entrance of Photographia Vicente, Funchal (1913-1920), a glass in gelatine negative and silver salts; a Polaroid Land Model 95 B camera, from 1957, one of the first photo camera models by Polaroid; and the Rolleiflex E Camera, from 1956.
The block of postage stamps has a Madeira’s Photo Museum – Atelier Vicente’s 2019 digital image and a Kodak No. 2 Folding Autographic Brownie.MFM – AV – inv. 003 GRM camera.
This museum is an ex-libris of the 19th century photo museums’ architecture. There were four Vicentes’ generations developing the photo art. The building with the Madeira’s Photo Museum – Atelier Vicente’s was rated as a “regional cultural value estate” by Resolution No. 78/91 of January 24th, and updated as a “public interest” estate by Decree-law 34/2004 of March 1st. The Madeira’s Autonomous Government purchased all of Vicente’s real estate in August 3rd, 2004.
This philatelic issue is composed by three stamps, with 100 000 units each for domestic use up to 20g, for Europe up to 20g and worldwide up to 20g. It has also a block with one stamp worth 2.5€ and limited to 35 000 units. The stamps’ design is from Túlio Coelho from Atelier Design&etc.
The first-day stamp cancellations will take place at the Restauradores Post office in Lisbon, Município II in Oporto, Zarco Post Office in Funchal and Antero de Quental Post Office in Ponta Delgada.
