The Lisbon Book Fair edition, that usually takes place in May, was postponed due to the CoviD-19 pandemics. To mitigate the spread of the virus, the Portuguese Association of Publishers and Booksellers (APEL), together with the Lisbon Council, adapted this edition’s format to increase the circulation areas and endure the recommended social distancing. They dismissed some non-essential infrastructures and invest in open air activities.
In this sense, the Fair’s main auditorium is an open space; there are also two new open air auditoriums, away from the circulation areas, where there will be some of the activities scheduled.
The reduction of the number of dining areas – the organization has preferred the “on the go” formats -, the elimination of seats along the squares (except auditoriums), and the limitation of the entrance and exit areas are only some of the measures implemented to promote the visitors and exhibitors safety. For an even safer visit to the Fair, the organization recommends a prior registration with the editors.
At all entrances and all around the fair space there are alcohol gel dispensers. The use of face masks is mandatory for exhibitors and visitors.
As a sanitary prevention measure, the organization decided to limit the entrance to 3300 people through all the fair area, enabling a 2m social distancing. The capacity may be adjusted if decided with the Lisbon Council and Civil Protection.
The Lisbon Book Fair is open from 12h30 to 22h from Mondays to Thursdays. On Fridays it closes at 00h00. On Saturdays the opening hours are from 11h to 00h00 and Sundays from 11h to 22h.
The Lisbon Book Fair still is the major editors’ showroom in Portugal – with around 100 thousand books in over 200 editors’, brands’, bookstores’ and booksellers’ stands. The aim is to promote the reading in Portuguese, to encourage the reading habits and to increase the literacy level.
By being present at the Lisbon Book Fair, CTT continues the tradition with a stand dedicated to all those who visit it searching for his/her favourite author or just to feel surrounded by books.
