Banco CTT is a pioneer member of the Merece movement
15 October, 2021
Banco CTT proceeds with its sustainability concerns and joined the Merece program as of the beginning of October becoming one of the pioneer members of this movement that particularly intends to entitle an appropriate sustainable end to bank cards. “Merece” is the Portuguese word for “deserves”.
Committed in the reduction of the ecologic footprint and in the promotion of sustainability by their customers, Banco CTT will promote the collection and recycling of useless debit cards through a BRS envelope provided at the card’s renewal moment, free for all customers.
Apart from entitling a whole new life to old bank cards by transforming them into urban furniture, for each kg of cards collected a tree will be planted and survive for at least 5 years, compensating the emissions generated by each card (1 bank card equals 150gr of carbon footprint).
Banco CTT’s adhesion to this movement is in line with the strategy of promoting circular economy, whether through the cards’ recycling or through actions that promote waste reduction, like the dematerialization of bank statements (70% of our customers prefer digital statements), all towards a more sustainable future.
“Currently, Banco CTT owns a database with more than 600.000 customers, so we believe that by joining this movement we will have a significant impact in the promotion of ecologic sustainability habits. This is just another initiative in the scope of the wide Banco CTT’s sustainability program, aiming at the reduction of the environmental impact caused by our activity, and thus contributing to environmental sustainability”, states Luis Pereira Coutinho, Banco CTT’s CEO.
In the scope of this initiative, Banco CTT has also acquired debit cards produced exclusively with 100% recycled plastic. These cards already started to reach our customers’ hands and will soon count with a new image.
Because our planet deserves.
