CTT – Correios de Portugal  is going to reinforce its sustainable fleet with 160 Citroën AMI Cargo, which will serve the last mile. The supply of the electrical four wheeled vehicles is due to an agreement signed between those two companies, as a solution of electrical micro mobility, that will contribute to the air quality improvement in the big cities.

With a battery of 5,5 kWh and an electrical engine of 6 kW, the AMI reach a maximum speed of  45 km/h and have an autonomy of 75 km/h.

According to CTT’s CEO, João Bento, “the AMI are used for the postal delivery mainly in the urban areas, namely in the main Portuguese cities. Their size enable an easy access, including driving through the narrow streets that characterize many Portuguese cities, and they are easy to park during the constant stops the mailmen are forced to make. Before entering into this agreement, we have tested an AMI in the real world environment, and we obtained a very positive feedback from the users, which greatly helped us to take the final decision”.

CTT has been focusing in its alternative fleet and in the reduction of traditional combustion vehicles. By doing this, CTT offers more safety, comfort and convenience to the workers who daily drive along the Portuguese cities’ streets, and it contributes to a healthier environment, with a positive impact in everyone’s health.

The  use of electrical four wheeled Citroën AMI aims, in a short term, to replace the motorcycles of CTT’s fleet. They will offer a greater level of protection to the workers, a decision which will heavily contribute to a higher degree of road safety in Portugal. Moreover, these vehicles have more  load space, which enables them to carry safely the parcels and mail in the last mile.

CTT’s alternative fleet has to-day more than 400 vehicles and the company provides a green delivery offer, in 100% electric vehicles, to its business customers. In fact in 2021, the miles travelled by the alternative fleet of CTT increased by 57%, when compared with 2020.

It is also worth mentioning that CTT operates with two fully electrical hubs: Arroios and Junqueira, and the expansion to other Centers is foreseen.
